Residents urge quicker fixes at Roing Park and neighborhood sites as Measure P delays continue

Community members used the meeting’s public‑comment periods to press the commission about park maintenance and capital needs.
Tennis courts and safety
Multiple speakers described ongoing maintenance problems at Roing Park’s tennis complex: torn windscreens, splintered or broken benches, tattered signage, overhanging tree branches depositing leaves onto courts and insufficient lighting along paths and parking areas. Adam Bleian, a volunteer facilitator for a community tennis program, said the court surface can be slippery from leaves and that poor parking‑lot lighting makes users feel unsafe at night. “If we could potentially get some more shade structures…that would help bring a lot more people out there,” he said.
Small neighborhood projects and alley beautification
Speakers suggested Measure P or small neighborhood grants for alleyway beautification to create safe, walkable local spaces and recommended funding inclusion for San Pablo Park and Tedy Wills projects, both identified as nearing 80% design completion.
City response and next steps
Staff acknowledged the requests and encouraged filing service requests for specific repairs; one resident cited a Fresgo request (2600017319) submitted in early February and requested better follow‑up. Commissioners and staff did not announce immediate capital allocations at the meeting but noted those maintenance needs should be considered in upcoming parks master plan and capital improvement plan discussions.
