Board awards fencing improvement contracts across district, projects come under earlier master-plan estimates

At the June 10 meeting the board approved a series of low-bid awards for fencing improvements at multiple Redondo Beach Unified school sites, a Measure S-funded facility project.

District facilities staff described a multi-step planning process that included site walks with principals, PTA representatives and community members, detailed bid documents and prequalification of bidders. Fred (facility staff) told the board the district received competitive responses and that the combined low bids produced substantial savings compared with earlier facility-master-plan estimates.

The board approved multiple individual awards by school: Altavista, Burl Heights, Bernie, Jefferson, Lincoln, Madison, Toledo, Washington, Adams Middle, Paris Middle and Redondo Union High School. The low bidders named in the public discussion included Gold Coast Fence and Red Hawk Services across various sites. Staff said some sites required only limited work such as installing vision screening on existing fences, and other sites had larger packages.

Board members thanked facilities staff for the expedited work and noted the project aligns with district safety priorities under Measure S. Staff said contracts are expected to begin as early as Monday following required contract finalization steps and that prequalification and bonding requirements (bid bond, performance and payment bonds) apply to bidders.

The board voted to approve each bid award individually; motions passed by roll-call-style consent wording on the record with the student advisory vote noted as taken.
