Board hears draft 2025'26 LCAP; monthly parent education series and SEAL curriculum proposed

District staff presented the draft Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for 2025'26, proposing a monthly parent education series, expanded science instruction support, and a comprehensive SEAL (social-emotional) curriculum TK'212; staff said the final LCAP will return to the board next week for adoption.
At the June 10 meeting Redondo Beach Unified staff presented the district's draft 2025'26 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), which links LCFF funding decisions to district goals and state priority areas.
Executive Director Roy Lopez Jr. said the LCAP committee does not recommend changes to the current four goals but proposed several actions to strengthen implementation: a monthly parent education series aligned to LCAP goals; additional professional development to support science instruction; and expansion of the SEAL social-emotional curriculum to be comprehensive TK through grade 12 for 2025'26. Lopez said the LCAP committee also recommended continued support for math curriculum adoption and for teacher-on-special-assignment (TOSA) positions that target unduplicated student groups.
Lopez reported that the district administered LCAP surveys in late April/early May and received strong response from students and staff but relatively low participation from high-school students; staff said they are coordinating to reduce "survey fatigue" and to improve timing so future responses better represent all grade spans. The LCAP draft has been posted to the district website and shared with the district English Learner Advisory for feedback; staff said they will present a final version to the board next week and seek approval in time for budget adoption.
Board members asked clarifying questions about TOSA roles and about how parent engagement events will be sustained; staff said some actions are already in the plan and that detailed implementation schedules and professional-development calendars will be provided as part of the LCAP finalization process.
