Redondo students woo board with Timewise study-app pitch, win state business awards

Redondo Union High School students were recognized June 10 by the Redondo Beach Unified School District board after two school teams placed first in a statewide business plan competition.
A panel of student entrepreneurs from a class taught by teacher Mike Zoo presented their written plans and pitches to the board. Among them, Timewise — described by student presenters as a personalized, gamified study-planner that connects students to tutors and tailors study schedules to learning styles — gave a short demonstration of the product concept and business case. "Timewise transforms studying into a fun and rewarding experience," one presenter said.
The student presenters identified themselves in the pitch: Omden Shaw as CEO, Arjent/Arjun Modi as CFO/CTO, Riley O'Flynn as CMO and Angelina Molina Gonzalez as COO. They told the board the app is not yet built but outlined a go-to-market plan that emphasizes social media platforms and estimated a conservative first-year target of about 9,000 subscriptions at $5.99 per month.
Board members congratulated the students and asked practical questions about product readiness, whether beta testers exist and whether an LLM or other models would be used on the back end. Presenters repeatedly affirmed the product remains a startup idea and that development decisions — including any model selection — are still pending.
The board also recognized Bliss, a separate student team that presented a consumer product, named its student members and invited group photos. The board praised teacher Mr. Su and the program for providing students with real-world business experience.
The recognition came during the "reports to the board" portion of the meeting and concluded with applause as the students exited to be honored further by the mayor after the meeting.
