Senior Center renovations planned; donations and grants will fund two replacement vans

Parks staff presented construction drawings for a Senior Center reception-area renovation and an update on transportation-van replacement funding at the March 10 advisory-board meeting.
The reception-area renovation is intended to improve ADA accessibility, add bench seating with storage and modernize the beverage area. Staff said construction drawings were recently completed, an RFP will be issued by the end of the month, and bids are expected in late April with construction beginning in July. Funding cited includes $25,000 from the city, a $25,000 township match and a Green County community investment grant of about $52,000; staff said the total estimate is roughly $100,000 though alternates could change final cost.
On transportation, staff reported approximately $180,000 in private donations to the program, a $116,000 ODOT grant that would cover roughly 80% of one van (estimated cost $145,000–$150,000), and eligibility for a $40,000 Green County Council on Aging grant. Staff concluded that combined funds should allow purchase of two replacement buses that can carry four wheelchairs each; the vehicles are older (about 10 years) and have been heavily used. No local tax dollars were identified as the primary funding source for the vans.
Why it matters: Replacing worn vehicles and improving reception accessibility affect senior mobility, program delivery and safety for vulnerable residents. The board did not vote on these projects at the March 10 meeting.
Staff also noted the Parks division assists with cemetery management and described recent columbarium installations and sales that contribute to cemetery funding.
