Dunn County manager previews March 18 Board agenda, flags sheriff–DHS agreement and budget items

The manager said the meeting will take place Wednesday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 54 of the Dunn County Government Center and that a recording will be posted to the Dunn County YouTube channel for those unable to attend. “The March meeting marks the final County Board meeting for the 2024 to 2026 term,” Dunbar said, and he noted that all 29 supervisor seats will be on the April ballot and five current supervisors are not seeking re-election.
Why it matters: Dunbar emphasized procedural and fiscal items that set conditions for the next administration and ongoing county operations. Among them, the board will review carryforwards and budget amendments to allow departments to complete projects approved in 2025 but not finished by year-end and to update the 2026 budget to align with the county’s year-end audit.
On personnel and election timing, Dunbar said the board will consider a resolution to set salaries for the Sheriff and the Clerk of Courts for 2027–2030. “State law requires these salaries to be set before April 1,” he said, explaining the deadline affects when county residents may begin filing paperwork to run for those offices.
The board will also take up the second reading of an ordinance amending Chapter 6 of the County Code of Ordinances to define records retention and open records request processes; three Facilities Committee items (a county-campus land-management plan, a certified survey map to create a new parcel, and approval of an easement for TDS Telecom near Menomonie Park); a resolution to align juror pay with neighboring counties; adoption of the county’s legislative agenda; and consideration of a zoning ordinance for property in the Town of Peru.
Dunbar said the county implemented a new financial system on March 1 and that the transition is “going well,” with staff beginning to see advantages as internal processes adjust. He also noted that Emergency Management and Communications (911), the Medical Examiner, and the Sheriff’s Office will present short reports, each highlighting one area of their work.
Next steps: The meeting will include recognition of supervisors who are not seeking re-election and a public comment period on agenda items before the board takes up the listed matters.
