Bayonne City Council adopts participation in Safe and Secure Communities grant and passes temporary emergency appropriations

The City Council of the City of Bayonne voted unanimously to adopt two resolutions during a short meeting on March 13, 2026.

City officials approved Resolution No. 2026-108, authorizing the city to participate in the 2026 Safe and Secure Communities Grant Program administered by the State of New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety. The resolution was introduced by a presenter to the council and put to a motion; roll-call votes recorded "Yes" from Dr. Arthur, Council Member English, Council Member Vargas, Vice President Gomez and President Spinelli, and the resolution was adopted according to law.

Council members also adopted Resolution No. 2026-109, making temporary emergency appropriations for calendar year 2026 pending final adoption of the calendar-year 2026 budget. That measure was moved, seconded and approved by the same unanimous roll call.

Before the votes, council members briefly discussed whether to consider the two resolutions together or individually; one member suggested handling them simultaneously while another requested they be taken separately. No public comments were made during the public-comment period.

The meeting record includes a public-notice statement saying notice had been provided pursuant to the Open Public Meeting Act and amended on March 13, 2026, with notices posted at City Hall, provided to local newspapers and published on the city's website.
