The Laredo Fine Arts and Culture Commission welcomed newly appointed commission member Abraham at its March 19 meeting and approved the February 19 minutes.
Abraham told the commission he was “very grateful to be here and appointed the Councilman,” and said he looks forward to collaborating on future artistic endeavors for the city. The commission then confirmed attendance and quorum before proceeding to business.
Members discussed establishing officer positions — chair, vice chair, secretary and sergeant-at-arms — and whether the ordinance defines term length and responsibilities. Commissioner Lopez was nominated for chair during the discussion, but members agreed the formal election should be scheduled for the next meeting so legal and procedural questions can be answered first.
Commissioner Melissa moved (seconded) to place an item on the April meeting agenda to hold officer elections; the motion carried. The motion also requested staff provide the ordinance language describing officer duties and term length so commissioners and appointing officials can review it before the vote.
No final officers were elected at the March meeting; the commission will take up nominations and a formal election at its April session.
