The Laredo Center for Urban Agriculture and Sustainability's board accepted the resignation of board member Bianca Brewster and voted to nominate Alejandra Sees to fill a community board seat.
At the March 19 meeting, Chair convened the item to accept Brewster's written resignation; the motion to accept carried with no recorded opposition. The board then considered a nomination for the open community-member seat.
Alejandra Sees introduced herself as center director at Laredo JobCore and described her work with young people ages 16–24, including twice-weekly volunteer shifts at the center and a focus on social skills, mental-health supports and workforce training. "My intent in being part of it is not self-driven — it's mostly for my students and for the community," Sees said.
Board members discussed potential conflicts of interest and bylaws implications. Staff reported that JobCore's funding stream is Department of Labor and said they had checked relevant funding sources; board members who reviewed that information said they did not foresee a conflict. The board moved to nominate Sees; the motion carried. The chair said the nomination is subject to legal review and a council appointment step and that Sees may need to be sworn in by the city if the council confirms the nomination.
The board did not take additional personnel action at the meeting. The nomination will be forwarded to the city as required by the board's bylaws, and staff said they will notify Sees when next steps (legal clearance and city-council consideration) are complete.
