Traffic study finds speeds on North Yale near typical village roads; commissioners close item

Village staff presented a rerun of a traffic analysis for North Yale Avenue (from North Avenue/Illinois 64 to Armitage) and told the commission the packet includes a speed summary showing most vehicles travel at or below the 85th percentile metric used by traffic engineers.
Staff said the road is posted at 25 mph, the 85th percentile observed was about 35 mph, and the mean speed in the sample was around 30 mph. Sergeant Heyman said accident reports in the area were few over recent years and that the location did not show an elevated crash rating. Staff also said they reached back to the neighboring jurisdiction previously contacted on this issue; that jurisdiction declined to change its roadway posture. Given the combination of typical speeds and low crash reports, commissioners agreed the condition was not out of the ordinary and moved to close further action on the item.
A motion to close the agenda item carried on a voice vote.
