Hollander said the office currently pays roughly $100 per outsourced title search—about $104,000 last year—and that hiring a staffer (salary estimated at $45,000; total cost with benefits roughly $60,000) could substantially offset that expenditure. “With this new person, one of the things we're going to be able to do is we're going to do those title searches ourselves,” he said.
He framed his presentation by comparing office workload and revenue since taking office in 2010: total parcels rose from about 159,000 to roughly 181,000 and the tax levy grew from $304 million to $317 million. Hollander also highlighted collections performance and excess fees returned to general county funds over 15 years ($136 million returned, $160 million collected).
Commissioners asked for details about how many title searches would be done in-house in year one and whether the position would be trained from current part‑time staff. Hollander said his goal would be to perform half or more of searches in the first year, noting some seasonal duties would also support tax‑relief operations.
The committee did not take a formal vote; the staffing request will be reviewed during the budget process.
