Garfield council introduces flood-hazard ordinance, schedules June 10 hearing

The Garfield Mayor and Council on Tuesday introduced an ordinance to amend the municipal code to adopt flood-hazard maps and designate a floodplain administrator, a measure the council described as a state requirement.
The resolution (R-256-25/Ordinance 378) was presented as having been reviewed by the city attorney and engineer and approved by the state for introduction. The council resolved that the city clerk would advertise the notice of introduction and final hearing as required by law. A final hearing was scheduled for June 10, 2025 at 6 p.m., at which time members of the public can comment.
A motion to introduce the ordinance on first reading was made and approved on roll call. Council members emphasized that the ordinance implements floodplain requirements and provides for severability and designation of an administrator responsible for mapping and compliance.
