Council approves consent agenda and asks for quarterly summaries of tax refunds

The Boonton council moved and approved the consent agenda covering resolutions 25‑213 through 25‑222 without separate roll‑call objections. During discussion, a council member raised resolution 25‑218 — which authorizes the tax collector to issue routine refunds for overpayments — and said that delegating that authority to the tax collector removes a layer of council oversight.
"When you remove oversight from this body, we should still have at least some knowledge of what's going out," the council member said, requesting that the tax collector provide a quarterly summary of refunds. Another council member seconded the request and the mayor asked that the finance committee consider it.
The council then voted to move the consent agenda forward; subsequent roll call recorded affirmative votes from members present.
Next steps: the finance committee will consider how to implement the quarterly refund summary and whether to include those totals in regular financial reporting.
