New Britain council approves a package of grants, park improvements, equipment repairs and program funding

- A resolution recognizing Muslim American Heritage Month and urging greater inclusion for the Islamic Center in local civic life.
- Acceptance of an increased revenue package for the BEline Trail project, with $3.66 million proposed for construction contracts.
- Two after‑school grants from the Connecticut Department of Education totaling $307,760 for the 'Every Kid Counts' program; the recreation department also accepted an additional $108,677 grant to expand programming.
- Authorization to hire CES as electrical engineering consultant for Willow Street Park lighting at a fee of $50,000 to support the park-improvement project.
- Approval of a $26,000 repair/rebuild quote for a fire-department aerial ladder transmission and PTO to keep apparatus operational.
- Acceptance of a FEMA 2024 Fire Prevention & Safety grant totaling $27,500 (federal share approximately $26,190; local share $1,395) to purchase additional smoke alarms and support a smoke-alarm installation initiative.
Several routine procurement and staffing-related items were also considered; one on-call engineering services addition was tabled pending clarification of an apparent date error in the resolution. The council voted on each resolution by voice or roll call as noted in the official record.
