The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously April 6 to adopt a resolution declaring the county’s intent to issue general obligation bonds with a maximum cap of $16,000,000 and to engage bond professionals to manage the issuance.
Board President Marvell Howard presided over the vote after the Board discussed borrowing capacity and a project list. The Board also approved Resolution No. RS-20260406-001 to retain Butler Snow LLP as bond counsel and Government Consultants, Inc. as municipal advisor.
County officials said earlier work sessions estimated a capital need of about $16 million; a draft resolution had proposed a ‘‘not to exceed’’ cap of $20 million but the Board settled on $16 million during deliberations. The resolution and professional engagements passed on motions from Supervisor Orlando Trainer, seconded by Supervisor Pattie Little, with a unanimous vote.
The bond authorization is framed as a tool to fund critical infrastructure and facility improvements. Officials did not specify a timeline for issuance or list every project to be financed; the Board directed staff to continue planning and to coordinate next steps with the chosen municipal adviser.
The next procedural step the Board set was a recess meeting on April 10 to resolve outstanding funding questions for active road projects before any bond proceeds are allocated.
