Following an executive session to receive legal advice and discuss procurement negotiations, the Beaufort County Board of Education approved two funding actions on March 27.
First, the board approved Amendment No. 7 with MB Kahn Construction Company for the HE McCracken Middle School partial HVAC replacement, a guaranteed maximum price of $922,455 to be funded from FY2027 8% program resources. The motion was moved and seconded in open session after executive discussion and approved by voice vote.
Second, the board approved a purchase order with New Ideas School Supply Company for furniture tied to the Hilton Head Island High School Phase 1A rebuild (three-story addition), for $1,147,649.93, to be charged to referendum funds already included in the project budget. Board members clarified these purchases were within previously authorized FY budgets or referendum authorizations and that the motions were not a new appropriation but implementation of approved capital projects.
What comes next: staff will proceed with contract administration, ordering and scheduling consistent with the district's procurement and project-management timelines. Finance and operations staff noted some longer lead times for equipment and recommended earlier design and ordering for HVAC projects to ensure summer installation windows.
