ABC Unified School District officials on Nov. 4 told the school board they are expanding classroom instructional coaching and targeted literacy supports and presented early evidence that gains are emerging among English learners.
"Goal 1 brings that vision to life by strengthening teaching, learning and support for all students every day," Assistant Superintendent Dr. Christine Castro told the board as she introduced a slate of new and scaled services including instructional coaches, implementation coaches, interventionists and about 30 district literacy tutors placed across 19 elementary sites.
Directors said the district has introduced writing centers at secondary schools, peer tutoring, teacher coaching cycles and professional learning in structured literacy. The…
