Arlington Board authorizes advertisement of hearing to join Northern Virginia cigarette tax board

The Arlington County Board voted on March 17, 2026 to authorize advertisement of a public hearing for March 26, 2026 to consider joining the Northern Virginia Cigarette Tax Board and to amend county code chapter 39 for technical and conforming changes.
The clerk identified the item as a county action to approve and authorize execution of the Northern Virginia cigarette tax agreement and to advertise a corresponding public hearing. County Attorney Samuel explained the requested changes were needed to reflect edits recommended by the Northern Virginia Cigarette Tax Board administrator after the board’s earlier vote in February.
There were no public speakers signed up on the item. Chair moved and the board approved the motion to advertise the March 26 hearing; the motion passed unanimously.
