Trustees emphasized prioritizing safety work and asked staff to expedite projects that can move forward quickly.
The board placed an initial $1.5 million aside specifically for safety investments recommended in recent campus safety assessments. Trustees also agreed to earmark a separate matching program — a $10,000 per-site match intended to partner with parent-teacher organizations or boosters — to encourage community fundraising without delaying site allocations that will be available immediately.
Trustees discussed program parameters, timelines and a two-calendar-year target for completion (subject to DSA and vendor scheduling). Staff said they would brief principals on June 11, return an implementation timeline and provide periodic progress reports to the board. The motion to adopt the resolution carried on a roll-call vote with all trustees voting yes.
The commitment seeks to balance site discretion with district-level safety priorities; staff will return in the summer with the allocation spreadsheet and detailed procedures for requesting and tracking project funds.
