Adams County offers grants to help income-eligible homeowners make essential repairs

A representative of the Adams County Community and Economic Development Department said the Minor Home Repair Program offers grant assistance to income-eligible homeowners to make necessary repairs so homes are “decent, safe, and sanitary.”
The program is open to homeowners who live in unincorporated Adams County or participating areas, own their home, are named on the deed of trust, and occupy the property as their primary residence. Applicants must be current on taxes, and household income must meet guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the county said.
If an application meets preliminary eligibility requirements, the Community and Economic Development Department will provide an application and, if approved, send an Adams County staff member to conduct an on-site visit to determine the essential repairs needed. The county said priority will be given to repairs that establish a ‘‘decent, safe and sanitary’’ home.
Examples of repairs the program may cover include roof repair, electrical work, accessibility improvements, furnaces, plumbing and hot water heaters. The county cautioned that mobile homes manufactured after 1976 must have HUD manufacturer certification labels to qualify.
Funding for the Minor Home Repair Program comes from the Community Development Block Grant program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. For more information or to apply, Adams County directs interested homeowners to adamscountyco.gov/mhr or to call 720-523-6200.
