Vinton council approves urban renewal payment, personnel and routine resolutions; several appointments confirmed

Urban renewal payment: Council approved a resolution obligating urban renewal tax increment funds for Anderson Creek for the current fiscal year; staff said the city will make a second payment in June and that the developer-side obligation remains outstanding (the total remaining obligation on both sides was described as just over $4 million). Roll call recorded affirmative votes by Per (Permader), Cinius, Stark Hood, Sellers and Raker.
Personnel: Council approved a resolution setting hiring compensation for an assistant parks position. Members noted the new assistant and the parks director were not present in the chamber and that some parts of the hiring process had used Zoom.
Official newspaper and audit items: The council designated the official newspaper by resolution and discussed recent audit findings. Staff said audit letters for 2022 and 2023 had been routed to the city attorney and that the incoming audit firm will schedule fieldwork once reports are ready.
Sewer adjustment: Council approved an adjustment for 501 East 10th Street under the city’s policy for extraordinary usage. Staff described how the billing office would apply a $594.30 credit to the sewer portion of the account because the event met the policy threshold for adjustments.
Appointments: The council confirmed multiple appointments, including Mike Meyers to the Britain Airport Commission (term to Dec. 2026) and planning and zoning appointments for Don Widman, John Sherbring and Darren Sers (terms through Dec. 2023). Other mayoral appointments to boards including the municipal electric utility board and the board of justice appeals were approved by motion.
