Rohnert Park City Council adopted the city’s Active Transportation Plan on March 11, approving a set of projects intended to increase walking and bicycling access and connectivity in the city and prioritizing safety and downtown circulation.
Vanessa Garrett summarized changes since a January study session and said staff added Project 71 — a corridor study for Commerce Boulevard between the roundabout and Hunter Drive focused on pedestrian lighting and bike access. One public speaker, Steve Keith, told the council he supported active-transportation measures and the city’s outreach efforts.
Council members praised the plan’s thoroughness and emphasized that increasing non‑automobile trips is essential to downtown vitality. The council conducted a public hearing, accepted public comment and adopted the plan by resolution; the vote was recorded with four yes votes and one absence (Councilmember Rodriguez absent).
Staff will proceed to implement the approved plan and will return with scheduling and prioritization information as projects move into design and funding phases.
