Residents urge tolerance for Airbnbs, press for Serals Avenue sidewalks and a pump-track skate park

At the June 25 public-comment period, residents raised several neighborhood issues:
- Shanti Emerson said she supports Airbnbs, arguing they bring tax revenue and visitors who bolster restaurants and theaters. She said homeowners should be able to choose short-term rentals rather than be forced into long-term rentals.
- Julia Flity described a five-year effort to secure sidewalks on Serals Avenue (her address: 417 Serals Avenue). She said the lack of sidewalks creates pedestrian-safety concerns for neighbors, including people with disabilities, and asked for an update; Public Works engineering (Brian) said a funded project is coming and offered to follow up.
- Remington Cox urged the council to select a skatepark designer with experience building hybrid pump-track concrete parks so the facility serves beginners through expert skaters and encourages flow-based design, not just isolated street elements.
Council thanked the speakers and directed staff to follow up where appropriate (Public Works to contact Ms. Flity and parks staff to consider design criteria for the skate-park designer selection).
