St. Charles Parish school board ratifies Magnolia Ridge attendance-zone reassignment

The St. Charles Parish School Board unanimously adopted a resolution on Dec. 10, 2025, ratifying the reassignment of the Magnolia Ridge area to enrollment Zone 6, which covers Mimosa Park Elementary and Lakewood Elementary. The board said the change substitutes clearer, physical-feature-based narrative descriptions and an updated map dated Dec. 10, 2025 for prior, vaguer language.

Board members said the revised narratives reference physical features such as streets, parcel lines, rights of way and watercourses to reduce ambiguity for families and staff. The resolution authorizes the superintendent or the superintendent’s designate to update official attendance-zone maps and GIS files, publish the revised narrative and maps in the district’s attendance-zone digital search tool, make clerical corrections, and notify affected families, school staff and other stakeholders. The resolution ties its effective date to the publication of the updated materials.

Ellis Alexander moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and the chair announced the item passed unanimously among board members present. The board did not provide a detailed roll-call tally in the meeting record; the chair stated the item passed "with the board members that are present." The resolution and its exhibit were described in the meeting as replacing prior narrative descriptions in official district records.

District staff will be responsible for implementing the administrative steps listed in the resolution, including updating the district’s map and digital search tool and coordinating notifications. The board did not record any separate motions to delay or amend the resolution during the meeting.

The board will consider the resolution implemented once the updated narratives and maps are published in the district’s attendance-zone digital search tool, unless the board directs otherwise at a later meeting.
