Following the vote, Administrator Amaday told the council the Jackson project will begin what he described as a roughly 20‑year program to replace lead service lines as water mains are replaced or repaired.
"This is step one and what's going to be a 20‑year journey — a very expensive journey," Administrator Amaday said, adding that the village is estimating around $20 million to complete full replacements over time and will seek state grant funding to offset local costs. He said the village expects to learn about a state funding application later this year or in early 2023, which will influence the program’s timeline.
Council members praised the award as an important public‑health measure. The resolution moves forward the Jackson Boulevard work, which also ties to planned resurfacing and other coordinated infrastructure improvements.
The award authorizes staff to proceed with the contract for the Jackson project; the council did not set a completion date for the larger village‑wide replacement program. Administrator Amaday and staff said they will return with more details as grant decisions and project scheduling are clarified.
