Mission leaders proclaim support for Children's Advocacy Center; fundraiser set for March 28

The Mission City Council on March 10 unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing the Children's Advocacy Center of Hidalgo and Starr Counties for its work supporting child‑abuse victims and raising community awareness.
Tina Martin, a board member and past president of the center and a Mission resident, told the council the center is “a first stop for children who have been sexually abused, have had severe physical abuse or neglect, and those who have witnessed a violent crime.” She said the center provided services to 1,831 young victims in FY2025, 342 of whom live in Mission, and credited the Mission Police Department for daily collaboration. “Having our own center here in Mission has made such an easier time for our families,” Martin said.
The proclamation notes that the center offers crisis intervention, forensic interviews and examinations, family advocacy, mental‑health support and community education. The council read the proclamation aloud, a motion to approve it was made and seconded, and the vote carried unanimously.
Martin invited the council and residents to the center’s fundraiser, Venos, scheduled for Saturday, March 28, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Mallen Convention Center. The event will feature food, wine and live entertainment, and proceeds will support services in Hidalgo and Starr counties.
The council did not take additional action beyond adopting the proclamation. The pictured proclamation was presented following the vote.
