Council approves sending $17,000 wage and classification study to full council

The Maumee City Council committee voted to recommend that the full council authorize a wage and job-classification study with a private vendor.

Committee members discussed a proposal from Archer (vendor name in packet) to conduct a comprehensive job analysis and wage study for non-union, non-part-time and non-temporary positions. The presenter said the contract is listed at about $17,000, which includes roughly $2,000 allocated for updating job documentation; the timeline was described as four months in vendor terms and possibly closer to six months in practice.

The scope described to the committee included: employee questionnaires for each covered position; comparison with peer cities; a classification review and compensation analysis; and sample ordinance language the city could adopt if it follows the consultant's recommendations. The presenter noted union positions were excluded both to save cost and because union contracts are publicly available.

A motion was made and seconded to approve the wage-audit/study and recommend it be forwarded to the full council for authorization. The vote was recorded in the committee as 'yes' by council members listed in the transcript; the motion was carried and the matter will go to council for final action.

If council approves the contract, staff said the vendor will provide final recommendations and optional draft ordinances for the city to consider.
