The Neon City Council used part of its March 16 meeting to announce community events and launch a monthly citizen-recognition program.
City leaders described Foodie Friday, a weekly food‑truck night that the mayor said is now booked through early May, and listed upcoming vendors. The council also announced a third annual Easter extravaganza scheduled for April 4 at the Neon football field with about 3,500 eggs planned, free admission and participation from many local organizations and sponsors.
The mayor unveiled a new monthly award to honor residents who contribute exceptional service to the city and presented the first award to Chester Johnson, praising his reliability and assistance with water-system problems. The mayor said the recognition will be given monthly and could be awarded to more than one person on occasion.
City officials thanked volunteers and named Ryan Atkins and Ken Ston for recent stage repairs following flood damage, and encouraged candidates and businesses to advertise on a downtown marquee that supports community events.
