Treasurer reports three balanced months, delinquent-tax collections and April audit plan

Melissa Franks, Broadwater County treasurer, told commissioners the county's books were balanced in February, marking three consecutive months of balanced reports. She said the treasurer's office has collected $111,157.25 since delinquent-tax letters went out and reported a remaining real-property delinquent-tax balance of $339,386.34.
Franks said the office is reviewing certain certificates of deposit that are held under the treasurer's FEIN and will work with the bank and departments to assign appropriate FEIN numbers to reduce confusion over accounting treatment. She told commissioners the county is "shooting for April" for the auditor to complete the annual audit.
Franks described work to clear outstanding payroll and claims items after an automation that redeemed certain items was removed. She said manual review has uncovered roughly $117,000 in transactions to reconcile and that fixing those items should reduce the reported outstanding balance ahead of the auditor's review.
On an economic-development item, Franks said the Cash Fest review needed a small piece of information from Buchanan that has now been provided and the county will coordinate further meetings with the group as needed.
No formal action was taken on the treasurer's report at the meeting.
