Public health reports low flu and COVID levels, vaccine support and June bike rodeo

Ruby Taylor, Broadwater County public-health staff, told commissioners the county is seeing low levels of influenza and COVID and no active measles cases. Taylor said a COVID outbreak at Billings Clinic affecting long-term-care residents was reported to the county and was contained by the facility. "They handled it beautifully and were able to close the outbreak," she said.
Taylor outlined vaccine availability: pediatric vaccines are provided through the state's Vaccines for Children (VFC) program and the county has a grant from the Broadwater Community Health Foundation to support vaccine costs. She said the health department can discuss payment plans for administration fees when needed and encouraged residents to call the office about vaccine access.
Taylor also said the county plans to hold its annual bike rodeo in June (around the 13th) and is coordinating with the Rotary for volunteers; the event supports the county's maternal-child-health injury-prevention grant. She noted the health office's hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and that staff will attend several conferences in coming months.
No formal action was taken on public-health items at the meeting.
