Volunteer group outlines grants, cleanup schedule and multi‑year plan for Crystal Springs

A representative of Friends of Crystal Springs and Morton Hill Cemeteries updated the board on volunteer stewardship, grant activity and near‑term work plans.

The group reported roughly 16 office hours, 11 field hours, and additional home‑based work to index and protect old cemetery blueprints and records. The speaker said all basement blueprints have been inventoried, boxed and returned to the vault and that a notebook in the vault lists blueprint locations.

The volunteer group said it submitted a $1,500 grant request to the "bearing found community foundation" to fund brochures and pamphlets to distribute locally. A contractor prepared estimates to clear three park/ravine sections on cemetery property so paths and access can be reopened if large grants are secured.

The group announced work sessions beginning Sunday the 15th (Sundays and Mondays through March) and a shift to Saturdays and Mondays in April, with regular Monday morning work sessions from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They reported another grant submitted last Friday to clean Ox Creek and said they plan to seek funds for veteran flag holders and to develop five‑ and 10‑year plans for larger cemetery projects.

The group also said it will coordinate with the department of public safety to establish emergency zones and ensure first responders can find injured people in ravine areas. The board received the report and did not take formal action; volunteers requested continued coordination with city staff and finance for grant and project support.
