District describes in-house adaptive life-skills expansion and wider CPI training for staff

District administrators reviewed special education service changes and staff development plans, reporting that fifth-through-12th-grade adaptive life-skills instruction has been brought in-house and that the program is staffed by a named teacher and two aides. "Our adapted life skill program and we still contract for third through fourth grade and for our adult transition program... our teacher is Brook Schweninger; we have two aides in that program and it has been a huge success," a district presenter said.
Administrators said programs remain aligned with students' individualized education programs (IEPs) and that students continue to receive push-in supports to general-education classes. The district also described training plans for classified staff: selected employees will receive broader Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training, including verbal interventions and, for a smaller group, hands-on strategies for rare safety situations. The presenter said that training is intended to give staff tools to engage students without power struggles and to support social-emotional learning work already underway in the district.
The board asked clarifying questions about staffing and transitions; administrators said the adult transition program serves eligible students up to age 21 and that the district continues to contract for certain services for younger grades. No formal vote was taken on program structure during the meeting; the presentation functioned as an update and request for ongoing oversight.
