U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise addressed the Louisiana State Senate from the president’s desk on May 6, praising recent economic developments and the state’s ability to attract major private investment.
Scalise told senators that policy changes and partnerships have led to new energy projects and increased revenue sharing, linking those outcomes to investments in coastal restoration and job creation. "We opened up more lease sales in the Gulf... and our state gets more of the revenue that comes along with it," he said, framing the changes as both economic and geopolitical wins. He highlighted large private investments in the state and named companies with new projects.
Scalise also credited earlier tax changes for benefits to workers, saying, "Last year as people file their taxes, the state of Louisiana alone, 500,000 Louisiana workers benefited from not having to pay taxes on overtime." He encouraged senators to keep pursuing policies that, in his view, make Louisiana more competitive for jobs and investment.
The Senate suspended rules to hear the address without objection; the remarks were delivered during morning proceedings that also included routine roll call, recognitions, and legislative business.
