Vinton swears in two officers; chief outlines staffing, security upgrades

Two new officers were sworn in at the Sept. 11 Vinton City Council meeting. Cody Pearson and Zach Stab took the oath of office and briefly introduced themselves: Pearson described his Army service and family, and Stab said he is 19, a lifelong Vinton resident and previously worked at the Blackhawk jail.
Police leadership reported the department is nearly fully staffed. The police chief said one officer remains off duty for a nonwork injury and another is on leave for family illness; a newly hired officer who already holds certification should be on his own in about a week or two, and another recruit will attend the academy in January.
Council and the chief discussed physical-security upgrades to the city building, including touch pads and cameras for staff protection at the clerks' counter. The chief said the department is pursuing accreditation and has established updated security policies; councilors supported exploring lower-cost vendor options and directed staff to continue obtaining quotes.
Cody Pearson said he has been living in town for several years and served active duty in the Army, and received congratulations from council and staff. The council recognized the hires as restoring capacity for routine patrols and operations.
Next steps include onboarding for the new officers, continued work on vendor quotes for facility touch pads and cameras, and further discussion of accreditation steps.
