Hillsborough board ratifies five-year teachers'contract, approves broad package of motions and hires

The Hillsborough Township Board of Education on June 23 ratified a negotiated agreement with the Hillsborough Education Association covering July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2030 and approved a broad slate of routine motions on curriculum, personnel and operations.
Board President Paul Marini announced the contract ratification after the board moved through other business; the roll-call vote recorded yes from board members present and the motion passed. "Congratulations, and thank you for everybody who's been involved with that," Marini said after the vote.
Why it matters: the agreement establishes salaries and working terms through the 2029'30 school year and triggered a series of staffing renewals and salary adjustments the board approved the same night. Human-resources motions included resignations and retirements, reappointments and transfers for 2025'26, summer staffing, revised renewal lists for certificated and support staff and authorization for the superintendent to make summer appointments.
The board also approved multiple education motions: new and revised curricula (including performing arts and math course updates, algebra I part 1/2 CP, and a newly approved US2 honors option), grant activity (the Teacher Climate and Culture expansion grant, $60,962), and several student reinstatement and suspension resolutions.
Miss Stats recorded a dissenting vote specifically on motion 13.7 (the US2 honors course), voting "no" on that item while voting "yes" on other education motions. The board moved the remainder of the education package by roll call.
In operations, the board approved routine financial items (monthly bills, financial statements, line-item transfers), contracts (including a nursing services contract and agreements with Catholic Charities for before/after-school care), a capital maintenance reserve transfer, facility work (pavement and fire-alarm quotes) and parent transportation contracts for 2025'26.
Personnel introductions: the board introduced two administrative hires who will start July 1. Noel Baxter was presented as the new supervisor of social studies and gifted education; Baxter described coming from Scotch Plains and expressed excitement to join the district. Dan Polus (introduced as Dan Polus in the meeting) will become the K'12 supervisor of health, physical education and nursing; Polus said he looks forward to supporting nurses and PE staff.
What happens next: the contract and the approved motions take effect per their terms and scheduling. The board said personnel appointments tied to the agreement will be finalized administratively as authorized.
