Officials acknowledged the purchase will push the district’s projected year‑end position into the red — administration estimated a near $700,000 deficit for this budget year — but said the district has sufficient fund balance to cover the one‑time cost. "We have the fund balance to handle that," a speaker summarized from the staff presentation.
The board discussed cost drivers in lower grades (phonics, manipulatives and classroom libraries) and noted the adoption includes a six‑year term that, according to administration, should limit year‑to‑year additional costs. After discussion, a member moved to approve, another seconded, and the board approved the purchase in a unanimous roll‑call vote.
