AOS 93 reviews interlocal agreement edits; board to confirm mailing address and weighted-voting language before commissioner filing

At its April 1 meeting, the AOS 93 board reviewed proposed revisions to the interlocal agreement that will govern the reconfigured district if voters approve changes. The board examined formatting edits, attorney-recommended language additions and a missing grid in the draft; members instructed staff to restore the missing grid and tidy paragraph language about school committee alternates.

Members discussed establishing a mailing address for the central office and debated options including a street address, a mailbox with a post, or a P.O. box. A staff member was assigned to check with the post office about available addressing options and to report back. One participant noted the district already owns an adjacent acre that may affect addressing of the property.

The board also agreed to add explicit language explaining a weighted voting method and that a municipality’s votes should be divided among that municipality’s directors in attendance so that absent directors do not remove municipal voting power. Members agreed the final draft should state the voting method and show how votes are apportioned when fewer directors attend.

Board members noted the amendment is subject to approval by the commissioner of education and said they would finalize the mailing/address information before scheduling any public vote; the board plans to notify voters in local newspapers after the commissioner review. The group deferred final calendar adoption to individual school boards to preserve local input.

Corrections and substantive edits will be incorporated into a finalized draft to be submitted to the commissioner before placement on a public ballot.
