Resident urges physical improvements and enforcement after 'No left turn' sign repeatedly knocked down at Leonard Terrace

During the Oct. 21 public-comment period, resident Janet Tmont (38 Leonard Terrace) reported that a 'No left turn' sign on the island at Leonard Terrace and Eagle Rock Avenue had been knocked down repeatedly over recent weeks and that the county refused to reinstall the sign at the original island location. She said drivers frequently continue into the intersection past the stop sign and some vehicles drive over the island, creating a safety hazard for pedestrians and children who use the area.

Tmont asked the borough to consider physical measures to prevent illegal left turns (for example, a cement planter on the island), to deploy targeted traffic-enforcement details at varying times for 30 days, and to petition the Essex County Engineer to reassess the intersection. A council member said the intersection is designed for right-turns only (right turn in, right turn out) and agreed to forward the enforcement request to the police department and coordinate with the county engineer.

Council accepted the request and said the traffic committee and police will review enforcement options and consult with county engineering. No formal traffic ordinance or expenditure was introduced at the meeting; council committed to follow up through committee channels.
