Calexico Unified board unanimously approves consent items, E‑rate RFP authorization and textbook compliance resolution

The Calexico Unified board approved consent items 1–9 and voted unanimously (5–0) to approve an ASSE certificated program, to authorize staff to seek proposals for E‑rate technology services, to proclaim Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23–31, 2025, and to adopt a resolution finding the district in compliance with Education Code section 60119.
The Calexico Unified School District board approved a slate of consent and action items in open session, including routine policy readings, new program approvals and resolutions.
Assistant Superintendent Elisa Ramirez presented a first reading of several board policies and administrative regulations aligned with recent state legislation and CSBA guidance. After discussion, the board approved consent agenda items 1–9 in a single motion; Trustee Castillo moved the motion and Trustee Calderon seconded it. The motion carried 5–0.
The board approved item 11, an ASSE entry‑level certificated program for automotive certification running Oct. 10, 2025–May 29, 2026; Trustee Calderon moved the measure and the board approved it 5–0.
On item 12, the board authorized staff to seek proposals for E‑rate services for the 2026–27 school year to support technology infrastructure (fiber, Wi‑Fi, connectivity). Trustees asked about the future availability of federal E‑rate funds; staff replied they had not been notified that funding would be cut and said the RFP is a preparation step to apply if funds remain available. Trustee Calderon moved and Trustee Raina seconded the authorization; the motion passed 5–0. Assistant Superintendent Ramirez explained in public Q&A that E‑rate funds support school internet connectivity and infrastructure.
The board adopted a resolution proclaiming Oct. 23–31, 2025 as Red Ribbon Week and then adopted a resolution finding the district in compliance with Education Code section 60119 and CCR Title 5 §9531 regarding sufficiency and availability of textbooks and instructional materials. Both resolutions passed unanimously (5–0).
No public votes overturned or amended any items during the session; several agenda items (10, 15–17) were pulled for further consideration or for discussion after closed session.
