Mayor Mike Gardeno used the borough council meeting to formally swear in three police leaders, saying the promotions recognize long service to the community.
"Tonight I have the honor as mayor to promote Christopher Cone to sergeant, Kyle Moore to lieutenant, and swear in the chief of the Waldwick Police Department, Troy Seafford," Gardeno said, introducing biographical remarks about each officer.
Christopher Cone, introduced as Sergeant Cone during the ceremony, was described by the mayor and others as a Waldwick native who graduated from Waldwick High School, earned a degree in criminal justice, joined the department in July 2014 and has served as the department resiliency officer, a DARE instructor and a field training officer.
Kyle Moore, promoted to lieutenant, was described as joining the department in September 2011, serving as a patrol supervisor and detective-bureau supervisor, and holding certifications as an instructor in firearms and active-shooter response. Mayor Gardeno said Moore has served on the Bergen County Regional SWAT team since 2015.
Troy Seafford took the oath of office to become the borough's police chief. The mayor outlined Seafford's local roots and career path, including earlier promotions within the department, assignments to the detective bureau and administrative responsibilities, and service as juvenile officer and DARE instructor. Seafford told the council he was honored to serve in his hometown.
The swearing-in drew sustained applause from the council chamber and attendees. The mayor thanked former and present department leaders in attendance and asked supporters to congratulate the promoted officers. Following the ceremony the council took a short recess before continuing with scheduled business.
The meeting record shows the promotions were ceremonial and administrative; no council action was required to effect the oaths. The council then resumed routine business and scheduled follow-up items for other agenda matters.
