Staff said the change is intended to allow students to recover GPAs, meet A‑G requirements and not have early course failures "count for life." Trustees asked about A‑G impact, athlete eligibility and scheduling; staff said the P/R mark will carry no GPA weight and will not disadvantage student athletes under district or CIF rules.
Promotion/Retention: The board approved a first reading of AR 5123 to align retention decisions with the district's MTSS (multi‑tiered system of supports), standardizing interventions before retention is considered.
Routine approvals: The board approved a package of contracts and operational items including renewal of educational service agreements, a Think Together ELOP contract, field trip authorization for an Edison High School jazz band trip to New Orleans (April 2026), Microsoft 365 licensing renewal, inspection and facilities contracts, and other procurement items. Most of these votes were unanimous.
Budget reserve: The board adopted resolution 25‑11 to set a flat statutory reserve at $30,500,000 (moving from a percentage to a flat amount) to reduce variability in transfers to Fund 40. The resolution passed 6–1 with Trustee Angel Flores voting no.
