Antioch board approves stakeholder panel for superintendent finalist interviews

The Antioch Unified School District board voted to appoint a stakeholder interview panel that will meet with superintendent finalists and provide non-binding strengths-and-concerns feedback to board members when selecting finalists.
Consultants assisting the search from McFersonson and Jacobson explained the panel’s role: it will interview candidates and return qualitative input to the board but will not rate or make hiring decisions. The panel composition was described as a mix of staff, parents, students and community members drawn from both board-nominated and open-interest pools.
Board members used a drawing process to fill slots across identified categories (administrators, certificated/classified staff, parents, community members, students) and then took a vote to approve the panel. The board confirmed the selection by voice vote after alternates were named.
Consultants clarified the panel’s limits: it will surface strengths and concerns for finalists; the board will retain full authority to weigh that input alongside other hiring criteria. The panel will meet during the interview phase scheduled for May 1–2.
