New Britain council elects leadership, swears in committee clerk and affirms caucus picks

The New Britain Common Council used its Nov. 19 meeting to organize its leadership and committees for the new term, electing and swearing in officers and accepting caucus leadership choices.

Nominations and swearing-in: During the leadership portion, a member rose to nominate Alderman Francisco Santiago for a leadership post; the clerk performed a swearing-in and applause followed. Both the Democratic and Republican caucuses announced internal leadership picks: the Democratic caucus selected John McNamera as majority leader, Wilma Bosa as assistant majority leader and Loose Ortiz Luna as assistant majority whip; the Republican caucus selected its minority leaders and assistants as announced during the meeting.

Committee and liaison appointments: The council appointed Shane Livingston as clerk of committees and adopted committee memberships and council liaison assignments by voice or roll-call vote. The council also adopted its standing rules for the term after a motion by Alderman Santiago.
