The Local Planning Agency voted March 11 to recommend Sylvia Tazikas to fill an alternate vacancy on the LPA and will forward the recommendation to the Dunedin City Commission for final appointment.
The board opened the floor to nominations after receiving brief statements from three applicants who were present. Jude Zentmire, a long‑time Dunedin resident and trail cyclist, John Shine, a local developer, and Sylvia Tazikas, owner of CC Riders, each described their community involvement and reasons for seeking the alternate slot.
Sylvia Tazikas said she has invested in Dunedin as a business owner and has served on or advised multiple local boards; she described her interest in giving back through the LPA. Jude and John likewise emphasized lengthy local involvement — Jude noted regular trail use and long residency, and John spoke about development and infrastructure experience.
A member moved to nominate Sylvia Tazikas; the board took a roll‑call vote and recorded seven affirmative votes from Member Broom, Member Karen, Member Johns, Member Telford, Member Young, Vice Chair Stannick and Chair Benjamin. Michelle (staff) confirmed the recommendation will be forwarded to the city commission for final approval.
The appointment recommendation was the last substantive item on the agenda; the LPA adjourned after the chair closed the meeting.
