The Wayne Township Board of Education used its June 12 meeting to honor long‑serving staff who are retiring and to recap end-of-year student achievements.
The board read tributes recognizing employees including Kevin Bona (head custodian, more than 20 years), Gail Patterson (34 years in before- and after-care programs), Michelle Cornell (24 years in special education), Dawn Hourbach (25 years, most recently director of elementary education) and others. Speakers described retirees’ contributions to students and the community and extended well-wishes for retirement.
Dr. Tobach summarized college acceptances for the Class of 2025, listed athletic successes at both Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley, and reported community scholarship totals: the transcript records $93,050 distributed at Wayne Valley and $12,200 at Wayne Hills, with PTO scholarships raising $60,000. The administration announced an end‑of‑year newsletter to be published Friday, June 20, that will include features on graduates and student-athlete spotlights.
The board also announced personnel items for the 2025–26 school year — including appointments, resignations and a memorandum of agreement with the School Cafeteria Playground Aides Association for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2028 — which were presented as revisions to the agenda and discussed in executive session.
No additional votes on those personnel items were recorded in the public part of the transcript beyond the agenda adoption vote earlier in the meeting.
