Superintendent Janet Shuroka was recognized by the North Brunswick Township School District Board of Education at its June meeting as she prepares to retire after more than a decade with the district.
Shuroka thanked the community and reflected on district priorities in her administrative report, saying the district’s multi‑year work on MTSS (multi‑tiered system of supports), social‑emotional learning and targeted walkthroughs is yielding measurable gains. “This is truly breaking news,” she said, reporting ‘‘preliminary indicators show that we should be assigned a score of 80% or greater in the area of instruction and program in CUSAC,’’ which would make the district ‘‘a fully highly qualified district’’ across the reviewed areas pending a formal letter from the New Jersey Department of Education.
Board President Miss Toth led a tribute on behalf of the board, applauding Shuroka’s leadership and thanking her for securing passage of a referendum and advancing capital projects during her tenure. Shuroka told the board she is proud of collaborative efforts and said she looks forward to watching ongoing progress after her departure.
The meeting also included a formal presentation of retirement honors to dozens of district employees. Assistant Superintendent Amy Kea told the board the group of retirees represents 460 years and three months of combined service to the district. Board and community speakers named individual retirees from central office, the high school, middle school and elementary schools and presented plaques.
Union President Beth Pasner used public comment to commend the district’s recently settled contract and to thank Shuroka for her collaboration with staff. The meeting closed with the board taking routine business actions and adjourning.
What happens next: Shuroka will leave at the end of the month; the board took no formal personnel action on a successor at the meeting.
