The Monongalia County Commission on March 18 approved proposed revisions to the county Emergency Ambulance Service Provider Agreement designed to modernize an agreement originally adopted in 2014 and amended subsequently.
Forest, who presented the changes to the commission, said the update removes outdated references to local EMS agencies, substitutes the name 'Vandelia' for a former operator listed as 'Mont Health' because operations had changed, aligns insurance requirements so the agreement requires whichever level is higher between county and state minimums, and adds a GPS requirement to comply with Mechan 911 dispatch standards. "We realized technically we're working off a 2014 document with 2018 and 2019 amendments, so we wanted to clean that up," Forest said.
Why it matters: commissioners said the update is timely ahead of a levy year and helps ensure contracts and provider requirements match current operations and state rules. The revisions were described as mostly technical and aimed at ensuring compliance and interoperability with 911 systems.
The motion to approve the service-provider agreement was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. No amendments were recorded during the meeting.
Next steps: the commission will use the updated document as the governing agreement for ambulance-provider relationships going into the upcoming levy cycle; staff did not announce a specific effective date during the meeting.
