Board approves new high‑school arts courses, bilingual summer outreach and summer nursing services

Susan, reporting for the curriculum committee, said the committee approved four new courses at Marstown High School — advanced ceramics, advanced painting, advanced drawing and a Holocaust & genocide studies dual-enrollment program — and that details are listed under the agenda’s educational matters. The committee also approved multiple field trips and the April 9 meeting minutes.
On student support, the board approved a locally funded bilingual summer outreach team that will prepare registrations and welcome new families and a bilingual coordinator to oversee multilingual programs and related summer testing. The district also approved summer nursing services (locally funded) and summer proctors for WIDA-model testing for multilingual students.
Why it matters: the new courses broaden arts and humanities options for secondary students; the bilingual outreach and summer nursing services are intended to ease enrollment and access for multilingual families and to maintain health supports outside the regular school year.
