Morris School District honors scores of retiring educators; announces principal searches for two schools

The Morris School District on Monday evening paused its regular business to recognize a long list of retiring teachers, nurses and support staff, then moved into agenda items that included personnel updates and a plan to search for two new principals.
Superintendent Dr. Mucci opened the recognition portion and invited leaders and principals to speak about staff members whose combined service the board said totals more than a century. Dr. Gordono led off, praising counselor Karen Wolf’s work in college-and-career planning and calling her impact on “countless individuals towards bright, purposeful futures.” Mr. Miller, principal of Normandy Park, and Mark Manning, principal of Morristown High School, each spoke about long-serving educators who mentored colleagues and supported students with special needs.
The board singled out a range of roles, including secretarial and nursing staff. Dr. Pinto Gomez honored Paula Mendes, who served 15 years as a school nurse and 11 years as district nurse coordinator and helped build a continuing partnership with outside health providers and university nursing programs that bring student nurses into district schools.
During the superintendent’s report, Dr. Mucci also announced that Woodland School principal Kina Telmac will resign at the end of the school year. “We deeply thank Miss Telmac for her leadership,” the superintendent said, and added that Matthew Kryley, the district’s director of elementary education, will lead searches for both Woodland and Thomas Jefferson schools and invite parents and guardians to participate on search committees.
Board members said they would post an interest form for families and expect the search to emphasize candidates who reflect the values and needs of each school community. A brief reception followed the recognition segment.
What’s next: the district said it will begin the principal-search timeline immediately and will solicit parent participation via a link the director will distribute.
