District officials presented results from the 2025 Summer Academy, which included multiple sessions across elementary sites and partnerships with more than a dozen local vendors.
Aaron Alexander told trustees Session 1 was a five‑day enrichment program that served 524 TK–eighth‑grade students at Burbank, Peterson, Gracie and Ray elementary schools; across sessions MCSD reported 1,276 participants in some offerings and noted that over 4,500 enrollments occurred across district summer programming and partner offerings (district and partner data include students who registered for multiple sessions). Alexander said the program contracted more than 100 credentialed teachers and more than 140 classified staff to provide full‑day services and cited positive family surveys about the program’s learning environment and staff.
Academic activities ranged from literacy and Eureka Math supports to STEM and computer programming for older students; students participated in field trips and hands‑on projects. Alexander said survey respondents valued the program’s staff, engagement and safe learning environment, but that families experienced some confusion around the new SixCrickets enrollment and attendance system; staff said they will continue to coach families and streamline logistics.
Trustees praised the program’s breadth and encouraged staff to bring summer programming proposals earlier in the calendar year to increase participation. Alexander said the district would continue reviewing participation data and vendor feedback and would post a video and follow‑up materials on the district website for families.
